Tournament Rules & Regulations

1. This tournament is a Hockey Saskatchewan sanctioned tournament and follows Hockey Canada and Hockey Saskatchewan rules governing minor hockey.

2. Two points for a win, one point for a tie, zero points for a loss.  First place teams will go to A event, second place will go to B event, third place will go to C event.

3. Game duration: Will consist of three (3) 15 minute stop time periods.  The ice will be cleaned after the game. If there is a seven goal or more spread in the third period, there will be straight time.  If the spread goes back to under seven goals the game reverts back to stop time.

The tournament committee reserves the right to adjust the playing time and ice cleaning schedule of any and all games.  Teams will be advised of any adjustments.

4. Time-outs: Each team will be permitted one (1) - 30 second time-out per game

5. Jersey Color: Home - light color   Visitor - dark color

6. Overtime: There will be no overtime in pool play.  

Medal Round + Final games tied at the end of regulation will be determined as follows: 

If a game is tied after regulation time, teams will play five (5) minutes of stop time, 3 vs 3 sudden victory overtime.

Teams will not change ends in overtime

If a penalty is assessed, the non-offending team will add a player (creating a 4 vs 3 situation) and the penalized player will return to the ice after completion of the penalty.

At the first stoppage of play following the expiration of the penalty, the teams will revert to 3 vs 3.

If the winner is not determined after the five (5) minutes of overtime, a shoot-out will determine the winner.

The shoot-out will consist of three (3) players from each team alternating shots.

The visiting team will shoot first.

If still tied after the first three (3) shooters, teams will alternate single shooters in a sudden victory format. 

Rosters must be depleted before any player may shoot a second time.

7. Tie Breaker: As per Hockey Sask Regulation 3.08.01 the following criteria shall be used to determine team standings in the event of a tie at the conclusion of pool play:

Two teams Tied

  1. Best win record in games played between tied teams
  2. If still tied, the team with the best win record
  3. If still tied, the team with the best goal average in all games would qualify. The goal average of a team is determined by dividing the total number of goals for by the total number of goals for and against in all games played.    Note that a maximum of 7-goal difference per game will be used in the calculation of the game ratio.  This will be calculated from the actual 'goals for' of the losing team in the particular game.
  4. If still tied, the team with the least number of minutes in penalties in all games. (Note minor penalties in run time will count as 2 minutes)
  5. If still tied, the team to qualify would be the team which scored the earliest goal in the game(s) between the tied teams.
  6. If still tied after all previous methods have been applied, the winner will be determined by a single toss of a coin.

Three or more teams tied

Note this tiebreaker is used to determine the seeding of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.

  1. Best record in games played between tied teams
  2. Most wins in all games.
  3. If still tied, the team with the best goal average in all games would qualify. The goal average of a team is determined by dividing the total number of goals for by the total number of goals for and against in all games played.  Note that a maximum of 7-goal difference per game will be used in the calculation of the game ratio.  This will be calculated from the actual 'goals for' of the losing team in the particular game.
  4. If still tied the team with the fewest goals against in all the games played
  5. If still tied, the team with the most goals for in all the games played
  6. If still tied, the team with the least number of minutes in penalties in all games played. (Note minor penalties in run time will count as 2 minutes)
  7. If still tied, a coin toss 

Note: Once a step in the three or more team tiebreaker establishes a ranking of a team(s), they assume that position and the remaining teams go to the next step.  They do not go back to the 'Two Team Tiebreaker'

8. Penalties: All Match penalties, Major penalties, Game Misconducts and Gross misconducts will be suspended according to Hockey Sask regulation 6.09.

9. Tournament Stats: All game stats will be posted to the Hockey Regina website and will be entered according to what has been recorded on the official game sheet. There will be no adjustments made to what the game sheet indicates. There will be no protests allowed.

10. The referee's decisions are FINAL in all matters pertaining to rule interpretations, assessment of penalties and awarding of goals and assists.

11. Due to time limits, there will be no stick or equipment measurements.  Referees are empowered at their discretion to remove dangerous equipment from the game.

12. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to alter and enforce any rule as deemed necessary to operate the tournament in a safe, timely and efficient manner. Tournament Official(s) decision(s) are final and there will be no protest/appeal process.

13. Any harassment or verbal abuse towards the tournament committee may result in game forfeiture. These matters are at the sole discretion of the tournaments
